Build a professional comment-to-DM flow
Build a path from a comment to a public reply, DM, conditions and follow-up.
A common scenario starts when someone writes a keyword under content, receives a short public reply and continues the conversation in direct messages.
What you will learn
Build a dependable flow that handles comments and moves the conversation into DMs without losing the user.
Before you start
- Choose the target post or Reel.
- Use short, clear trigger keywords.
- Prepare the public reply and first direct message before building.
Steps
1 — Set the comment trigger
Choose a comment trigger in the new flow and specify the content or intended scope.
2 — Define trigger keywords
Choose words that reduce accidental runs. Configure matching carefully if you use several variants.
3 — Keep the public reply short
Write a natural, brief reply telling the user that the conversation continues in DMs.
4 — Add the first private message
Clearly state the next action, such as choosing an option or sending information. Respect the platform’s private-reply and user-response requirements before continuing the DM conversation.
5 — Build conditions and branches
Use Condition / Filter for different user responses and route invalid input to helpful guidance.
6 — Define completion and follow-up
After the goal is reached, record the contact tag or stage and schedule a follow-up if needed.
Useful tips
- Avoid repetitive robotic public replies.
- Test invalid inputs as well.
- For sales, define a clear endpoint such as recording a request or sending a link.
Troubleshooting
- If the comment arrives but no DM is sent, inspect that flow’s execution report.
- If the first message is sent but the path stops, check whether it is waiting for a user response or has a missing connection.
Test example: requesting a product guide
Choose one post and the keyword “guide”. In the first private reply, ask the person to reply or select the relevant option. Design the conversation to continue after their interaction; a comment alone should not start a chain of follow-up messages. Test the matching comment, an unrelated keyword and a reply to the first message separately.
