How to Connect Instagram to ChatGPT or Claude with Magic MCP
Easy step-by-step Instagram to ChatGPT and Claude connection guide: Magic MCP setup, permissions, privacy, examples, troubleshooting and FAQs.
Want to ask ChatGPT or Claude about your Instagram performance or create content ideas in plain English? Magic MCP connects a compatible AI assistant to the Instagram account you have already linked with Magic Super Manager. You never need to paste your Instagram password into a chat.
Connect Instagram to Magic using Meta's official flow. Add the Magic MCP server URL in an AI assistant that supports custom remote MCP connections. Sign in to Magic, review permissions and test the connection with a read-only question.
What is Magic MCP?
MCP is a standard that allows AI assistants to work with authorized tools and data. Magic MCP provides a controlled link from ChatGPT, Claude or another compatible AI client to selected Magic Super Manager features. Connecting does not grant unlimited control of Instagram.
What do I need?
- A Magic Super Manager account you can sign in to.
- An Instagram account connected through the official Meta/Instagram authorization.
- A ChatGPT or Claude account that supports custom remote MCP connectors. Availability and actions depend on your plan and workspace settings.
- An understanding of the permissions you need. Start with read-only access when possible.
How to connect Instagram to ChatGPT or Claude
1. Connect Instagram to Magic
Open Instagram Accounts in Magic Super Manager and complete the official connection. Check the active account if you manage more than one profile. Only enter your Instagram password on the official provider's sign-in page, never in an AI chat.
2. Open your assistant's connector settings
In ChatGPT, find Plugins or the option for a custom MCP server, depending on your account and workspace. In Claude, look under Customize → Connectors for a custom connection. If the option is missing, it may not be available on your plan.
3. Add the official Magic MCP server URL
Enter https://mcp.magics.site/ as the server address. Leave advanced options at their defaults unless your AI client needs something different.
4. Sign in to Magic and approve permissions
Sign in with your Magic account. Read the permission screen carefully. Reading saved insights is different from publishing content or sending a message; grant only the access you need.
5. Test with a safe question
Ask the assistant to show your connected Instagram accounts or the last update time for saved insights. If no tools appear, review sign-in, permissions and connection settings.
What can you do after connecting?
- Review insights: summarize available account and post performance and check the last sync time.
- Plan content: brainstorm ideas, captions or drafts for posts, Stories and Reels.
- Explore workflows: inspect authorized contacts, conversations or Smart Direct flows if the related tools are enabled.
- Take approved actions: publishing, messaging or changing flows requires supported tools, separate authorization and explicit confirmation.
Three example prompts to try
- “Which Instagram accounts are connected to my Magic account?”
- “Summarize the latest available insights for this account and show the last sync time.”
- “Suggest three product-launch captions. Do not publish anything.”
Privacy, security and limitations
- MCP permissions are separate from Instagram authorization; a connected assistant cannot automatically publish or message people.
- Information returned by authorized tools may be processed in the AI provider's conversation. Check the provider's privacy settings before connecting.
- You can review or disconnect the Magic MCP connection when you no longer need it.
- Connector availability and supported actions differ across ChatGPT, Claude, plans and workspaces.
- Some analytics are saved snapshots from the most recent sync rather than live Meta numbers.
What if the connection fails?
- Check that your account supports custom remote MCP connections.
- Enter the HTTPS server URL correctly.
- Complete Magic sign-in and the permission approval screen.
- Verify the intended Instagram account is connected and selected.
- If only one feature fails, check that tool's permissions, confirmation requirements, Meta limitations and data freshness.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a direct Instagram-to-ChatGPT login?
No. Instagram is first connected to Magic, then ChatGPT or Claude accesses approved Magic tools through Magic MCP. You do not share your Instagram password with the assistant.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. If your AI client offers custom MCP connections, you usually only need the server URL, Magic sign-in and permissions.
Can AI publish posts or send DMs automatically?
Not by connecting alone. Sensitive actions need an available tool, appropriate permissions and explicit confirmation.
Does this work on every ChatGPT or Claude plan?
No. Custom connectors and supported actions vary with account type and workspace policies. Check your settings first.
Why are Instagram numbers different?
Some tools use data saved during the last sync. Check the timestamp, selected account and metric definitions.
